Milwaukee, WI – July, 2011 - Remember how much fun you had at the circus when you were a kid? You can live it again, including the cotton candy, kissing booth and carnival games, when the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition (WBCC) hosts its 12th annual Rare Chair Affair on Friday, October 14 at the historic Pritzlaff Building in downtown Milwaukee. Guests will be treated to a turn of the century circus theme, silent and live auctions, entertainment and a special raffle for a piece of furniture being created just for the event by renowned Milwaukee artist Reginald Baylor.
Of course, the stars of the show will be always the Survivor Artists – fifteen breast cancer survivors who are already working with artist advisors on the pieces that will be auctioned off by “Ringmaster” Dan Pronley. This year, for the first time ever, the artists are creating more than just chairs. There will be tables, mirrors, and dressers - even a bar on wheels.
For many survivors their painting experience over the summer is a healing experience and a chance to interact with fellow survivors in a fun and creative atmosphere. Their pieces speak to their journeys, inspire guests, and help raise much needed funds to support the work of the WBCC.
The WBCC is a statewide grassroots advocacy organization whose mission is to unite advocates concerned about breast cancer through educational efforts, collaboration with other groups, and by pursuing legislative policy that will positively impact the cancer community. As a board member of the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC), WBCC is actively involved in “Breast Cancer Deadline 2020” – a call to action to all stakeholders (researchers, funders, policy makers and advocates) to change the conversation about breast cancer from awareness and screening, to ending the disease by finding out how to prevent it.
Tickets are $75. Reserved tables for up to 10 are $700. Please contact WBCC to receive an invitation at 414-963-2103 or wbcc@standupandspeakout.org.
